It’s Thursday night. An overcast sky leads to rain and mist. It’s nasty out, but I’m out. I’m heading to a Celebrate Brooklyn music concert with friends. Seirra Leone’s Refugee All Stars are playing. I’ve seen them before. I know their story. A band a makeshift band of refugees playing music with love and compassion in the face of constant war and despair. The show visible marks of turbulently violent times past. Lost limbs and scars evident as they strum instruments beat drums. Their songs are upbeat and happy. I’ve always admired this. They sing for the lost souls that civil war and evilness took..and continue to take.
