Just another morning commute….but this got has foggy glasses..and I think that’s kinda funny. That’s it.
It snowed again yesterday. And this morning the clouds are rolling back in. I’m on my get fit routine. Up early at the gym on a Sunday morning. Richard Simmons would be proud of me. I’m not sure how the rest of the day will unfold…but at least I’m starting it out right.
We’re all cold today. My hands only come out of my pockets to snap a quick image. I think they are frozen…and shakey. I release the shutter a few times to make sure I get the image. You could see the cold in the unsteady hands of the first two shots. But this one…I think I got what I want. Fellow subway passengers waiting in the cold underground destined for the warmth of the train car. Anything is better than this. I only have a few more hours of winter until I press pause for a few moments and head down south. I wish this train would come already. I wish I did rely on the G train. It never comes when you need it. I need to get home….so I can escape.
This is my new bus stop at Dekalb and Throop. I’m deep in BK. I’m in the Stuy. Definitely not Do or Die anymore…well… at least not as bad as it use to be. For some reason there are more cops these days. And there is actually investment. People with money are starting to care about this part of Brooklyn. But, they still don’t care much about the people that have been living here for decades. I think they only see them as obstacles or opportunities. There obstacles because they represent “old” Bedstuy not the new one that the real estate agents are selling. There opportunities because of the real estate they are sitting on. A run down brownstone can be had for a few hundred thousand in cash and turned into $1.5 million in no time. Bedstuy will be an ongoing subject for me this year. I’m going to meet my neighbors and I’m going to learn their stories. I’m going to make sure that the people coming to the “new” Brooklyn understand that there is rich history and culture here.
I love the New York City subway and the subway loves me! Seriously, doesn’t this guy look happy that I’m taking his photo. I know he is just doing his job, but today we are working together. It’s just me and the MTA and I’m happy (the train conductor, not so much).
Damn it’s cold outside! Why do I live on the East Coast again? My brother just sent me a picture of him sitting pretty on Venice Beach in SoCal. I think he even had a drink with an umbrella in it…just rubbing it in! Here…it’s cold. I can barely walk around taking photos. Most mornings I just rush to the subway to get underground and away from the elements. Today…I made a brief .5 second stop to look up at the trees.
