Day 45 (February 14, 2014) – New York, NY
For the record, I’m sick and tired of seeing red and pink everywhere I look!
It’s not that I’m bitter for not having a Valentine this year (or I guess for the last couple of years). Noooooo I would never be jealous of all the happy couples walking around or men rushing home with arms full of roses. Na… not me. Jealous…never… not even as I walk by endless storefronts with Valentine’s themed display windows. Damn, even the lifeless manikins are cracking smiles and looks of affection. Come on! really?! Ok, I’ve been trying to make the best of it and I do get spend this day with a great friend in New Jeru, so I’m happy (love ya Jo!)…. But, I can’t help but feel a little miffed by some of the V-day festivities. The one that I have to take issue with on this day is the damn Empire State Building! Yea…. a building I normally love, but after a new lighting makeover last year it’s even its happiness is getting to me. For the last few nights the Empire State Building, donning red and pink lights has been mocking me on my lonely walk to the subway station. The lights dance and sparkle in the winter night and couples and tourist all admire the spectacle. If you pay attention you’ll couples holding hands tighter, some sneaking a little kiss, and…blah blah blah blah blah… Damn you Empire State building with your fancy lights! When I look up it shifts from pink to red then back to pink all happy… and what do I do… on this day… I lift my camera aim at this beacon of love….and then decide to photograph a dirty slush puddle. HA! I get the last laugh! Of course…until next year when maybe I’ll have a girlfriend and we’ll walk down the street holding hands admire the pink and red lights as if they building was showing off for us..
